Coves and beaches

Silba is embraced by a ring of picturesque sandy beaches and coves that can be reached by narrow lanes crossing the woods or along the rocky coast. The nearest beach from the locality is only at five minutes reach. The sea along the shores is shallow with a yearly average temperature of 15,4°C. Along the 25 kilometer long island coastline there are numerous lovely places for bathing in one of the most transparent seas on the Adriatic.
Žalić is the main port on the island. It is situated on the southeastern side of the island, at 300 meters from the center. Boats, ferryboats, and hydrofoils from Zadar, Pula, Rijeka and Mali Lošinj stop here. Swimming is not recommended in the port. Private boats are not allowed to moor.
Saint Anthony’s Port is the safest place to moor on the southern side of the island, especially for yachts, being sheltered from all winds. The 18th cent. church of Saint Anthony is located here.
Mul is the second port on Silba. It is located on the northeastern side of the island, at some 200 meters from the center. In contrast to Žalić, it is used mainly by private boat and yacht owners.
Pocukmarak is the biggest beach on Silba. This gravel beach next to a turquoise colored sea is located on the southern side of the island. The oldest island church, the church of Saint Mark, stands nearby and the cove was named after it (under the protection of Saint Mark).
Dobre vode with its green-blue seaand sandy shores is among the most attractive beaches. It is at a distance of 3 kilometers from the locality. Paths through woods lead to it, and it is ideal for Robinson ambience lovers. Nozdre is located on the northeastern side of the island, near Dobre Vode. Nozdre is made up of two small and lovely coves: one is completely sandy and the other is half sand and half gravel. It is characterized by high and straight rocks that emerge from the sea. It is the most distant beach from the locality, which warrants undisturbed enjoyment of the clear sea. Sutorišće is the biggest and most popular sandy beach on Silba. It is only about two hundred meters from the center of the locality. There is a court for playing volley on the sand, basketball, football, and it is possible to rent beach canoes.

Pernastica is the most beautiful beach on the island, even though not the most popular. It is located west from Mount Varh, near Borci Promontory. Its distance from the locality is 4,5 kilometers. It can be reached by boat or by an hour’s walk through the woods. Its characteristic is a long, shallow and sandy bottom.
Papranica is at 15-minute distance from the center of Silba, towards the northwest. It is popular among swimmers. There is a pier in the cove used by boaters to shelter from strong winds and storms.
Carpusina and Tratica are two small and neighboring gravel beaches at a five-minute walk from the center. They are perfect for watching the marvelous sunset. Carpusina has a short pier, and at about one hundred meters from the cove stands the church of Saint John and the church of Saint Mary of Karmela.
