The Latin name for Silba was Selbo which means forest. Silba has always been rich with holm-oak, Mediterranean oak (quercus ilex) and pine. Fertile surfaces of land – fig trees, olive groves and vineyards–found their place in the fertile valleys. The vegetarian world on Silba is rich with Mediterranean medicinal and aromatic plants. St.John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum), medicinal sage (Salvia officinalis), Icelandic lichen (Cetraria islandica), marigold (Calednula officinalis), mint (Mentha piperita), lavanda (Lavanda officinalis), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), immortelle (Helichrysum italicum), balm (Melissa officinalis), wormwood (Artemisa vulgaris), and rue (Ruta graveolens) can be found everywhere. |
